Family Support Worker - Prisoner Family Services - HMP Norwich

Salary: £16,052.40 per annum based on 24.5 hours per week (£12.60 per hour (Real Living Wage))

Based: HMP Norwich Visitors’ Centre

Working Hours and Patterns: The work pattern covers 24.5 hours per week as follows:

  • Week one: Tuesday 8.30am to 4:30pm (7.5 hours), Wednesday 10am to 4:30pm (6 hours), Thursday 8.30am to 4:30pm (7.5 hours) 
  • Week two: Tuesday 8.30am to 4:30pm (7.5 hours), Wednesday 10am to 4:30pm (6 hours), Thursday 8.30am to 4:30pm (7.5 hours), Saturday 8:30 – 4pm (7 hours).
  • Although a degree of flexibility will be required at times to meet operational demand.

We have opportunities to join our experienced and dedicated Family Services Team working within the visitors’ centre at HMP Norwich providing a personal welcome for first-time and returning visitors to help them access the services available to them.

We are seeking a Family Support Worker to join the team in providing effective and efficient running of the Visitors Centre, welcoming visitors and providing them with information and support as they come to visit someone at the prison. The successful candidate will be expected to lead on Children’s Visits and assist on Family Days and other services to ensure prisoners and their families have a valuable visiting experience, improving the quality of visits for children and families helping to maintain positive, healthy and resilient family relationships.

Also at HMP Norwich, we are proud to have an excellent team of volunteers who help staff with various tasks across the service. Within this role, we are also looking for someone who will support the Team Leader with volunteer recruitment, training and co-ordination.

Ideally you will have experience of dealing with people in a customer service-based role and be able to demonstrate excellent administrative, communication and problem-solving skills sometimes under challenging circumstances whilst embracing a non-judgemental and empathetic work ethic.
